Interpreter – Various T-Mobile Locations

In this role, you will be providing advanced interpreting work in a highly dynamic business environment for employee webcasts, internal meetings with multiple signing participants, and meetings with external partners. You will be a quick learner of terminology and dynamics, adept at using several video conferencing platforms, and willing to make adjustments on the fly as needed. You’ll endeavor to remove communication barriers to ensure seamless communication access for all participants. You proactively engage with peers and customers to seek feedback to continuously improve your craft. You adhere to the RID Code of Professional Conduct and are sensitive to the confidential and highly sensitive content of the meetings you interpret. You may also need to provide visual descriptions and other services that ensure accessibility for other partners as well.

What you’ll do in your role.

  • The interpreter must be adept in handling conference call interactions and dynamic language needs for several hours per day.
  • Partners with peers and employees to review relevant information related to assigned meetings to ensure accuracy and efficacy of the interpretation.
  • Engages in professional development relevant to the position and brings learning to the team in order to stay up to date on trends and best practices in this environment.
  • Reviews and approves contractor invoices as needed.
  • Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.

The experience you’ll bring.

  • Associates Degree in ASL/English Interpreting or related field
  • Bachelors Degree Related Field – preferred
  • 4-7 years Providing effective communication in English, American Sign Language, and Conceptually Accurate Signed English.
  • 2-4 years Professional interpreting experience in business and/or relay settings.
  • Less than 2 years Experience in interpreting in remote settings.
  • Less than 2 years PTASL and working with individuals who are Deaf/Blind.
  • Certificate in the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), BEI Basic or above, and/or state licensure – required
  • Expert problem solving skills regarding technology, language use, and power dynamics.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrate superior interpretation skills in a business setting involving multiple participants.
  • Ability to multi-task during conference calls.
  • Phenomenal voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation skills.
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient at using multiple video platforms such as WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and others.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED

Pros

Managers (at least mine) actually listened to and advocated for their employees. Great pay. Nice perks. Good culture — people didn’t seem miserable.

Cons

As with any big company, can take a while for things to get done. Lots of layers, etc. But definitely moves faster than other big companies I’ve worked for.

Advice to Management

Don’t advance those mid- to senior mgrs who just go through the motions. Do more to keep smart, talented people on board.
