T-Mobile is looking for a customer-obsessed, analytical, and creative Sr. Data Engineer in the T-Mobile Marketing Solutions (TMS) group within Corporate Strategy. Our team is changing the way we think about customer interactions every day and solving interesting problems around evolving our engagement on behalf of customers. TMS' mission is to develop, launch, and operate new businesses utilizing T-Mobile network data, retail, and platform assets. You will own the ground-up design of our new data solutions pipelines to support the TMS product lines and be the key person in defining and implementing the system design which will enable TMS products and capabilities including compliance and data analytics.

What you'll do in your role.

  • ETL/ELT Process Design and Management
  • Data Modeling
  • Data Warehouse Architecture design and deployment
  • Data Pipeline Development
  • Facilitate end to end solution design reviews with other members of the team that include communicating design, requirements, feature sets, functionality and limitations of systems/applications
  • Build data movement pipelines leveraging SQL, Python and Spark that meet all functional & non-functional requirements
  • Develop efficient feature capabilities to support proper data extraction & curation for analytical purposes
  • Develop cross-team relationships and collaborate with critical business partners to ensure proper standards are met
  • Follow all required T-Mobile compliance and security guidelines
  • Evolve technical skills and expertise through focus on continuing education and training

The experience you'll bring.

  • 5+ years working as data engineer / database developer (Hadoop experience a plus)
  • 5+ years of experience in data warehousing / big data environment, preferably in wireless industry and/or finance function
  • Experience in SQL ETL/ELT development and performance tuning
  • Experience building & optimizing data pipelines on cloud solutions such as AWS & Azure
  • Proven experience with data modeling, complex data structures, data processing, data quality, and data lifecycle
  • Experience in API design, SDK architecture, and mobile software lifecycle development practices
  • Experience developing & tuning SQL queries across numerous large data sets
  • Experience working in agile environments on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience mentoring other members of team on best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field

Managers (at least mine) actually listened to and advocated for their employees. Great pay. Nice perks. Good culture -- people didn't seem miserable.


As with any big company, can take a while for things to get done. Lots of layers, etc. But definitely moves faster than other big companies I've worked for.

Advice to Management

Don't advance those mid- to senior mgrs who just go through the motions. Do more to keep smart, talented people on board.
