T-Mobile is looking for a customer-obsessed, analytical, and creative Principal Data Engineer for the T-Mobile Marketing Solutions (TMS) group within Emerging Businesses. Our team is changing the way we think about data and how it can be leveraged to solve new problems. TMS's mission is to create new solutions in the advertising space utilizing T-Mobile network data, retail, and platform assets. You will own the ground-up design and implementation of our new data lake and data pipelines to support the TMS product lines and be the key person in defining and implementing a system which will enable new TMS products and capabilities.

What you'll do in your role.

Strategy
• Investigate new technologies to support the continuous improvement of our data-pipeline.
• Develop framework, processes, and tests to monitor and ensure proper data access and governance.
• Leverage your subject matter expertise in big data implementations to continue to scale the analytics team's data and information needs.
• Utilize best-in-class and standard practice methodologies, systems, governance and implementations relating to data warehousing.
• Develop cross-team relationships and collaborate with critical business partners to ensure proper standards are met
Technology and System
• Create data assets (data warehouses, data lakes, etc.) based on complex structured/unstructured data sources.
• Develop and maintain a robust and highly scalable data-pipeline to support our data science and engineering teams.
• Work with other teams (data science and engineering) to develop feature sets for their efforts.
• Work with data science team to rapidly prototype experiments for new features
• Develop automation tools to build more reliable systems and facilitate the ingestion of new data sources.
• Develop systems to support the ingestion of both streaming and batch data.
• Follow all required T-Mobile compliance and security guidelines
Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.

The experience you'll bring.

Bachelors Degree in computer science or management information systems preferred
5+years experience as a data engineer or database developer required
3+years experience in data warehousing or big data environments
Experienced in designing data lakes required
Experience developing & tuning SQL queries with large data sets preferred
Experience with Hadoop/Spark, Python, DataBricks, or AWS EMR required
Experience using Snowflake preferred
Experience with ETL/ELT development and performance tuning required
Experience building & optimizing data pipelines on cloud solutions such as AWS & Azure preferred preferred
Proven experience with data modeling, complex data structures, data processing, data quality, and data lifecycle required
Experience working in agile environments on multiple projects simultaneously
Experience mentoring other members of team on best practices

Managers (at least mine) actually listened to and advocated for their employees. Great pay. Nice perks. Good culture -- people didn't seem miserable.

As with any big company, can take a while for things to get done. Lots of layers, etc. But definitely moves faster than other big companies I've worked for.

Advice to Management

Don't advance those mid- to senior mgrs who just go through the motions. Do more to keep smart, talented people on board.
